HtmlEntity Plugin for Joomla

The HtmlEntity plugin for Joomla 1.6 and 1.5 allows you to force html entity strings to be sent to the browser when your page is shown.

Install by downloading the zip file and install using the Joomla Admin interface (Extensions > Install/Uninstall)

Go to the plugin manager and enable the plugin.

{htmlentity:code} will produce &code; in the output html for you page.

{htmlentity:#123} will produce { which is the { character.
{htmlentity:lt} will produce < which is the < character.
{htmlentity:euro} will produce € which is the character.

One of the situations when this is useful is when documenting plugins where you need to show the plugin source tags to the user without the plugin itself interpreting them.

I use the plugin on this page to show the {htmlentity:...} strings. If I were to enter { in the html code editor, it will almost certainly be changed back to a { when viewed in the normal WYSIWYG editor and the { string in the html will be lost.

Note. Some html entities can be inserted easily using the Ω (insert custom character) button provided by WYSIWYG editors, but not all of the special ASCII characters (in particular { and }) are not listed. That is because normally, you can just type them in. The problem only occurs when you want to display these characters, but hide them from the internal workings of Joomla pages.
